In a social media post this week, the café announced they are taking extra measures to help families cope with rising costs.

The Facebook post said: "Due to the current unprecedented oil and gas prices we know some within our community are really struggling to stay warm and eat.

"We find this totally unacceptable, therefore Claudes are offering free kids meals from now until Friday of next week, just ring 02871279379 place your order for collection.

"Claudes will also be helping a few older people within our community with heating costs, if you know of someone please send us a private message (please ask them first).

"We can’t help everyone, but if we can all do a little then it becomes a lot."

Families across the UK and beyond have been hit incredibly hard by the stark rise in prices for necessities like energy, oil and food.

Protests against the rising costs in fuel and energy in Derry are ongoing, with the third wave protest scheduled for April 2.
