Derry bubble tea and ice-cream shop with dozens of tasty flavours opens in city centre

One of Derry's most popular streets has welcomed a new bubble tea venture to the city centre.

'Love Boba' officially opened their doors earlier month on The Diamond with a huge selection of new flavours for customers to choose from.

Sarah Chen, the business owner, told MyDerry that she originally wanted to open up a venue five years ago when she first visited China.

"I didn't think there would be a market for it here so I didn't follow through with my original plan but during Covid-19 a few bubble tea places opened in Belfast and I went up and I tried it and I thought I could definitely make this work in Derry.

"There was a clear space in the town for a shop like this and because I knew some much about boba (bubble tea) that's why I finally decided to do it."

Bubble Tea, which originates from Taiwan, consists of tea accompanied by chewy tapioca balls, but it can also be made with other toppings as well, such as grass jelly, aloe vera, or red bean.

"I can't believe the reaction that it's got from the public," Sarah continued. "It's been so overwhelmingly positive. Everybody that has come in has been really nice and they've been really intrigued and interested to know more about bubble tea.

"I couldn't have asked for a better opening few weeks. People have been so welcoming and lovely about the opening."

Love Boba is based in Derry's Diamond Square (Handout)

The new business, which opens seven days a week, offers over 26 flavours of bubble tea, a selection of waffles, and ice cream.

"I am just so grateful now that I am able to do something that I sincerely enjoy," Sarah added. "Whenever I am out and about the city centre now and people ask me about the shop, I just love being able to tell them more about it.

"And that's what people will get whenever they come in. We want people to feel welcomed when they come into the shop and we'll be there to show them how it works and get them something that they'll be able to enjoy.

"We have a menu up which shows people what we have on offer and my staff are so passionate about what they do and they always look forward to chatting with new and returning customers."
