Friday night’s 133-123 Boston Celtics victory against the New York Knicks was a bit of a rollercoaster ride for the home team. At times the Celtics were red-hot on offense and ironclad on defense. During other stretches, Boston was less consistent, and played with visible frustration. Luckily for the Celtics, though, Derrick White stood tall and powered his team to a win.
White led both teams with 30 points on the night. He also registered 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. In short, he did a bit of everything, including leading the charge during a pivotal third quarter run.
White’s playmaking on both ends kept Boston from coughing up a lead, and the fans at TD Garden took notice.

At one point in the fourth when White shot free throws, loud “MVP” chants rained down. White was asked about the moment after the game, flashing a wide smile as he responded.
“It’s crazy,” White said. “We’ve got the best fans in the league.”
“I’m always thankful and grateful,” White said of the Celtics fans. “I’m grateful for them.”

White has become a fan-favorite since joining Boston at the 2022 NBA trade deadline, and the respect and admiration is mutual.
Likewise, White has become a critical player for the Celtics on both ends of the court, although he himself would admit some of the cheers are a little hyperbolic.
“I know I’m not the MVP,” White said with a laugh. “But it’s always cool to hear.”
