Derrick Henry responding ‘pretty well’ to work, will start practicing with contact

As we count down the days to the Tennessee Titans’ divisional-round matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, all eyes are on running back Derrick Henry, who is expected to make his return for the game on Saturday.

On Monday, head coach Mike Vrabel said this would be a big week of practice for Henry in terms of him getting back into the swing of things.

Before practice on Tuesday, Vrabel said that the Titans would be in pads and that Henry is set to face some contact, with the goal being to try and come as close as possible to replicating what he’ll face in a game.

Vrabel also noted that Henry has responded “pretty well” to the work he has received in practice thus far and they’ll continue to monitor him throughout the week.

“Today, I think that’s a good step,” Vrabel said. “We’ll have to have some contact; it’s been awhile since he’s (Henry) had contact. We’re going to have to do these things that come close to replicating what’s going to be asked of him in a football game. So, we’ll have a week of work, we’ll see how he feels and make a decision.”

Henry hasn’t suited up since Week 8, when he suffered a foot injury against the Indianapolis Colts. As a result, rust is an obvious concern going into this game, so it’ll be interesting to see how much he can handle.

Henry has yet to be officially activated off Injured Reserve, so that will have to happen first before he can play. We expect the move to be made any day now.

Tennessee and Cincinnati will meet in the Divisional Round on Saturday, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. CST.
