Dermot O'Leary didn't waste too much time in springing a surprise on Alison Hammond as they returned to This Morning. The pair were back at the helm of the ITV daytime programme on Thursday (December 15) for their penultimate show of the week before they head off on their Christmas break.
The duo have hosted the show all week after stepping in for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield who wrapped up their 2022 on the popular show last Friday. And as they kicked off the latest installment, Alison and Dermot welcomed viewers to the show but cut the chat so they could crack on with their busy show.
However, as Alison began to read her autocue and tease who and what they had coming up for viewers' viewing pleasure, Dermot jumped in and stopped her.

"We’ve got a bit of a surprise for you Alison Hammond," the former The X Factor host revealed to his surprised co-host. "We all know you lost out to Ant and Dec at the NTAs, but you’ve actually beaten them..." he teased before stepping back to pick up a huge frame and revealing she had won the Best-Loved Presenter at the Entertainment Daily Awards.
Jumping up and down over the news, the 47-year-old squealed: "Are you actually joking?!" She then added: "Thank you! That’s amazing! Oh that’s really nice, thank you ED!. I didn’t know that was happening today! I didn’t know about this."
"One more time, Alison Hammond," Dermot cheered before instructing her to get on with the show. "I'm honoured and I really appreciate that, thank you so much, I’m overwhelmed," the TV favourite managed to chip in before moving on to share what was coming up on Thursday's This Morning.
But there was slight confusion amongst it all as Alison asked: "Who's Ed?" leaving Dermot having to clarify that it was the publication name. He said: "Entertainment Daily. It's just a guy called Ed."
It comes months after Alison missed out on the TV presenter gong at the National Television Awards, which was won by I'm A Celebrity and Britian's Got Talent duo Ant and Dec for the 21st time in a row. But Alison and Dermot did take to the stage at the star-studded ceremony alongside Holly, Phillip, and more of the This Morning cast and crew as they picked up the Daytime gong at the awards bash for the fifth year in a row.
This Morning saw off competition from Loose Women, The Chase and The Repair Shop to take home the award during the ceremony held at London’s OVO Wembley Arena. After leading the acceptance speech, Phillip, who said "Don’t think we ever get complacent and please don’t think we ever take this for granted," the 60-year-old invited Alison to the mic after she missed out on a solo gong.
She said she was "grateful" for the award, but that she felt she should have won in the TV presenter category instead of Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly. She said: “I ain’t going to lie but we all know I should have won one of these as well. Bradley Walsh, Graham Norton and the legends that are Ant and Dec are amazing, but let’s be honest, I should have won one but This Morning won one anyways."
