Dermot O'Leary jokingly appeared to get a case of the green-eyed monster as he watched a flirty Alison Hammond enjoy their interview with Hollywood star Hugh Jackman. The actor was live in the studio to chat to the This Morning hosts about his new film, The Son.
Hugh takes on the role of Peter Miller in the drama film, based on the play of the same name, which sees the character's hectic life get further upended when his ex-wife tells him their teenage son, Nicholas, is deeply troubled.
He soon tries to take care of Nicholas the same way he would have wanted his own father to have taken care of him. Admitting his passion for the role after reading the script, Hugh told Alison and Dermot: "My agent said I think they are talking to two other actors and that’s a great motivator for an actor!

"I just felt a need to play this part and a fear to play this part…. And seven minutes into a zoom meeting I had, I was offered the part! They said they had no intention of casting me. They saw a connection and how engaged I was with it and how much I wanted to play it."
He added: "As a father, and an actor, especially now after the pandemic, mental health is something we need to be talking about, it touches everybody… and what the movie does is it puts you inside the head and the hearts of the people around someone who is suffering. Hopefully, it will start a lot of conversations."
Explaining how it affected his own family, Hugh said while live in the ITV daytime show's studio: "They needed time to digest it. But the next night when we had dinner it was probably a three-hour dinner where they were all talking about things and asking us questions, and we were talking about things that we had never spoken about before."
But things soon turned flirty as Alison suggested that she and Hugh hadn't been out for dates in a while due to his intense training for his Wolverine role in the new Deadpool film. Hugh smiled: "Alison, we could always go and hit it at the gym!" to which Alison replied: "Naaah!... Although I like doing heavy weights."
Then at the end of the interview, Hugh said: "It’s so nice for me to come to you because you’re always so lovely coming to me wherever I am, it’s nice to be in your home! [To Dermot] I’m a little jealous that you’re here, I’ve got to be honest… Laughing, Alison joked: "I feel like he’s a bit of a gooseberry to be honest."
Dermot quipped: "I'm a third wheel today, aren't I?" He then added: "I get that a lot. She's very free and easy with her affections." As Alison laughed, Hugh remarked: "Oh I see," before Dermot added: "You wait until Ryan Reynolds is on the couch."
It came after Alison and Dermot had headed over to a neighbouring studio of the London-based ITV building to chat to Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly about the return of Saturday Night Takeaway. Their hit TV show returns on Saturday night (February 25) and featured the moment they pranked none other than Alison herself.
But as they spoke to the duo about their popular series, Dermot asked them about the documentary they're currently filming which will show viewers the inner workings of the live TV show. “What about the behind-the-scenes thing?” Dermot asked. "Cos this is inspired by F1 Netflix doc, Drive to Survive," he continued.
“We love those docs,” Dec replied. "And we thought it would be really interesting to see behind the scenes on entertainment shows and on telly shows." Ant also said; "You know what it’s like working in live television. Things go wrong all of the time. Things change all of the time."
“And I think, once they’ve done with us, the cameras, This Morning would be a very good show to go behind the scenes,” he added with a smirk. “Oh, I dunno,” Alison said appearing un-keen at the idea. “There’s a lot that goes on at This Morning!"
"That’s what we want to see!" Ant said as Dec then quipped, jokingly hinting at some backstage drama on the popular daytime show: "I've heard it’s better than EastEnders!"
