Dermot O'Leary apologises to ITV This Morning fans at the end of latest show ahead of change

Dermot O'Leary ended his latest stint on This Morning with an apology. The presenter was back at the helm of Friday's show alongside Alison Hammond.

The pair were joined by a few guests in the studio, including Bridgerton's leading man Jonathan Bailey who was on hand to chat all things Bridgeton which landed on Netflix last week, and Emmett J. Scanlan who was teeing up the final episode EVER of Peaky Blinders due to air this Sunday (April 3).

Also sitting on the famous sofa was Coronation Street star Alexandra Madell who actually feared her appearance on the ITV daytime show may have been an April Fool's Day prank. She chatted to the hosts in the studio about her last week on the cobbles as Emma Brooker.

There was also the usual cookery demonstration and Holly Smith, who is dubbed the Coupon Queen, was also on hand to give viewers her best tips after she quartered her weekly shop, bagged £12k flights with loyalty points, and even thrifted her way to being mortgage-free at 35.

But as the show ended Dermot announced a hosting shake-up for next week's run of shows. He and Alison will be back for the full week in place of Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield who headed off on their Easter break and hosted their last show on Thursday (March 31) until later in the month.

As the show came to an end, the former X Factor host, 48, said: "Right, we are back on Monday, apologies in advance... we will see you Monday, have a great weekend."

It's not unusual for the pair to step in when Holly and Phil take time off. Since bagging the Friday hosting slot in January last year, Alison and Dermot have been regular faces at other times in the place of Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes.

Other hosts to have also taken the reigns in their absence have been Rochelle Humes, Josie Gibson, and Vernon Kay. But Dermot needn't have apologised as This Morning viewers were soon taking to social media to share their delight at having him and Alison, 47, on screen.

@NiickBoii tweeted: "Honestly Dermot and Alison are just perfection, they just make me smile so much. Nothing but love for the both of them. #thismorning." And after Alison shared a selfie of them together on her Instagram page before the show started, fans have been gushing over the pair on there too.

"First time watching and you two are a breath of fresh air! Loving it," @ aludlowlass said. @traceygrogan commented: "@alisonhammond55 you truly make #thismorning for me, I can’t stop watching when your on. You and Dermot are the best presenters now."

"Bloody love watching you and Dermot on a Friday," @ sysy_11 wrote.

@~kellie22treacy added: "Friday is my favorite day with these two always have me giggling."
