Dermot Kennedy pens emotional post thanking fans after landing 'dream' gig in US

Dermot Kennedy has penned an emotional post reflecting on his early days in the music industry, after landing a gig at one of America's most iconic concert venues.

The Dublin star told his followers on Twitter yesterday that he will be playing in Colorado's legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in the coming weeks. He wrote on Twitter: "I remember about five years ago, I was outside the American embassy in Dublin, nervously waiting to go in to my appointment for my first artist's Visa."

Dermot, who is originally from Rathcoole in Dublin, explained how a requirement for the visa was to write down a "touring plan" for the next five years. He added that his manager had written down Red Rocks as a venue they would play "sometime in the distant future", and now the singer is delighted to announce that he will perform at the venue on May 16.

"Tickets are on sale for my 3rd Red Rocks on May 16th. Even the dumbest, most far fetched dreams are coming true. I thank you so much for that," he added.

Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre opened in June 1941, and it has hosted world-renowned musicians such as The Beatles, B.B King, Willie Nelson, Jimi Hendrix and many more. Dermot is set to begin his Sonder Tour, on March 2 in Leipzig, Germany, which will run until July 9 in a sell-out third night in Thomond Park, Limerick.

He is also set to perform at Marlay Park in Dublin on June 23, and the Dublin star is also due to perform at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City as part of his US tour on June 14.

Last week Dermot also made his debut on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Kimmel in the US, making a big impression on viewers with his original song 'One Life.' The 31-year-old singer released his second album "Sonder" in November, which has reached number 1 on the Irish, UK, and Scottish charts, and also placed 74th on the US Billboard charts.
