Derion Kendrick dealing with hamstring injury but ‘making good progress’

Derion Kendrick has been unable to practice with the Los Angeles Rams in training camp and Sean McVay revealed why on Monday. While speaking to the media, McVay shared that Kendrick is dealing with a hamstring injury and he’s making good progress.

“He’s making good progress. I talked to him today and those soft tissue things are something that you can’t be too careful with,” McVay said. “So hopefully we’ll get him back within the week, maybe next week. It might be this week. So it’s kind of just day-to-day, especially when you’re talking about with those DBs.”

McVay didn’t pinpoint a definitive timetable for Kendrick to return to practice as the Rams take a day-to-day approach with the second-year cornerback. Soft-tissue injuries can be tricky, so the Rams are erring on the side of caution to avoid Kendrick reaggravating his current ailment.

Entering his second season with the Rams, Kendrick is competing for a starting spot at the cornerback position along with Ahkello Witherspoon, Robert Rochell, and rookie Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson. The Georgia product tallied 43 tackles and four pass breakups in 2022 as a rookie.

Being that every rep is meaningful in a position battle, Kendrick can’t afford to miss much time in practice. The positive news is that the Rams expect Kendrick to make his return to the field within the next week or two.
