There are plenty of derelict, vacant or abandoned properties across Ireland, with some on sale with hopes of a new life and others left to fall apart.
Many people see these homes as a project to fix-up, while others would rather see them demolished.
Real estate website Daft.ie has plenty of listings that include a derelict home on the site, with some costing €30,000 or less.

In relation to derelict properties, Dr Rory Hearne, lecturer at Maynooth University and author of Housing Shock, told the Irish Mirror : “There is a major problem of vacancy and dereliction across the country, and the Government measures are not working in tackling it.
“We need a high vacant property tax and more funds provided to local authorities to proactively purchase and tackle vacant and dereliction.”
Here are some of the cheapest listings on Daft.ie for derelict or abandoned homes.
Property in Tubbercurry, Sligo
This house, costing €25,000, is “situated in a Local Authority Development” close to the town centre. It is said to need an “extensive and complete renovation”.
Commenting on this house, Dr Hearne said: “It is shocking to see an ex-local authority home, in a local authority estate in a derelict state on sale for €25,000.
“That should be immediately purchased by the local authority and used for social housing.”
Photos show the garden overgrown, as well as the windows to the house smashed. Inside, the house is in ruins, with writing on the walls and old furniture lying around. One photo shows a bike left behind.
Property in Carrane, Tourlestrane, Sligo
This listing has just two photos, which both show a two-storey house that is painted red. The house has no windows or a roof and appears to be gutted inside.
In the description, it says that this detached home on a 2.4-acre site was damaged by a fire. Evidence of this is still present on the building now, with black stains on what appears to be a porch.
This house is located 2 kilometres from Tourlestrane Village, and 10km from Tubbercurry. It is also said to be “close to Rivery Moy and Lough Tait”.
It is on sale for €25,000, with the owner able to give “further particulars on application”.
Property in Glentarvin, Kilkelly, Mayo
Described as a “stunning restoration project for the right client” by its agent, this stone cottage has just one room.
It “contains much of its original charm and character” and has exposed stone walls and flooring. There is also an open fireplace.
“This property is located in a tranquil setting on a country road with mature shrubbery, and trees.
“This property is continently located just of the N17, located close to Ireland West Airport Knock,” the listing said.
Offers are invited in the region of €25,000 for this property.
Property in Lisheen, Williamstown, Galway
Another home that has been marketed as a fixer-upper, this property in Galway is a short drive from Williamstown village.
“This is a beautiful untouched private site surrounded by mature trees located in the open countryside on a secondary lane,” the listing said.
Viewings are highly recommended as the property is “in need of full renovation”.
This property is also on sale for €25,000.
Property in Shanvally, Kiltimagh, Mayo
Another home destroyed by fire, this Co Mayo property is now completely overrun with trees and shrubbery. Inside, there are leaves, plastic bags and bits of furniture on the ground.
There is a septic tank on the house’s site, as well as running water and electricity that needs to be connected.
The seller also gives the option of adding on 15 acres of land, which would bring the cost from €30,000 up to €100,000.
