Derelict Edinburgh restaurant could be transformed into funky new crazy golf bar

Plans have been put forward to transform a derelict Edinburgh bar into a brand new crazy golf course as well as a restaurant and bar.

The site at 129 Fountainbridge could see a major overhaul if proposals get the green light, with the unique circular venue, formerly known as Akva and Cargo, currently lying empty.

Closing in 2020, the site has been awaiting a new tenant, with plans now hoping to see a funky new golf course as well as a fully kitted out eatery and bar inside.

Currently, proposed plans for the building show that the ground floor area would be occupied by the bar and kitchen area, with seating for visitors as well as lockers for those wanting to head up to the golf course. Plans have also shown some external seating and room for ‘activities’, as well as a welcome desk toilets.

The main golf course itself has been proposed for the first/mezzanine level, which would include another bar area, further seating and a number of different holes built in around the circular building.

Speaking in the application, architects JLL said: "The proposed scheme would compromise a crazy golf venue with a cafe/restaurant (licensed) element.

"The site compromised the ground and mezzanine floors of a 4-storey building at 129 Fountainbridge. The space has been vacant since March 2020, most recently in operation as a cafe/restaurant/public house with table tennis facilities."

Submitting plans to the council at the end of September, a decision is yet to be made by officials, you can view the full application here.
