Derek McInnes in frank Rangers summary after Aris verdict

Derek McInnes delivered a frank summary of Rangers' performance levels as they stumbled to a 1-1 draw at home to Aris Limassol last night.

The former Rangers midfielder - who played at Ibrox between 1995 and 2000 - reckons his old club was below par on the evening.

He highlighted this by stating the Cypriot minnows were nothing more than 'average at best', yet Philippe Clement's side could not get the better of them on matchday five of the Europa League.

Rangers now need to go to Real Betis in the final game of the group stage and pick up a win to secure qualification to the knockout rounds of UEFA's secondary competition, otherwise, it's likely Conference League football after Christmas.

The Kilmarnock manager was full of praise for Ross McCausland, who scored his first senior goal just days after signing a new long-term contract.

Honest in his assessment of Rangers' overall showing though, McInnes told TNT Sports: "I thought Limassol were average at best. Rangers at their best should wipe the floor with this team. Maybe it just illustrates that Rangers aren't quite where they need to be.

"The two results against Limassol will be the two disappointments from the group.

"As a young player, if you come through at Rangers, you've always got to meet the responsibility, but good on him (McCausland). As I said at half-time, he's never let Rangers down and always seems to have an impact."

McCausland, 20, meanwhile believes that Rangers are capable of repeating their run to the Europa League final this season.

He commented: "I was at the majority of the games in that run and I was in Seville as well.

"If we were to do that this year, which I think we've got a strong chance of doing, that would be amazing to be a part of."
