In a recent interview at the Los Angeles premiere of the film This Is Me... Now: A Love Story, Dancing with the Stars judge Derek Hough spoke proudly about his wife Hayley Erbert. Hough expressed his awe and admiration for Erbert's strength and resilience following her recent craniectomy, a surgical procedure to remove a cranial hematoma.
Hough, 38, shared his amazement, saying, 'When I married her, I knew she was strong, but I really didn't realize how strong she really was until now.' He continued, 'I'm just, I really am in awe of her every day. She's incredible. She really is a miracle, and I don't really throw that word around lightly, but she really is.'
Erbert, 29, underwent emergency surgery on December 7, 2023, after suffering a cranial hematoma during the pair's Symphony of Dance tour stop in Washington, D.C. Later on December 20, she had further surgery to replace a large portion of her skull that had been removed during the craniectomy.
Reflecting on his wife's surgeries, Hough shared, 'It's been a crazy time, but I tell you what, it's been an amazing and beautiful time because all the little wins, the triumphs, it's just incredible.' He added, 'She's amazing.'
The emergency surgery came just three months after Hough and Erbert tied the knot in August 2023. Throughout Erbert's recovery, Hough provided regular updates on her progress, expressing gratitude for the support they received from fans.
In a recent emotional video posted on Instagram, both Hough and Erbert opened up about their journey and the ups and downs they have experienced. Hough praised his wife's perseverance and strength, describing her as a 'miracle.'
