Derek Carr practicing suggests he’s on track to start on Sunday

Derek Carr seems to be on pace to start at quarterback for the New Orleans Saints on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. This outcomes seemed like a long shot after last week’s game when Carr suffered three separate injuries: a rib issue, a throwing shoulder injury, and concussion. This is his second concussion in less than a month, and it seemed safe to assume he’d have to miss a game. Most players miss a game after their first concussion.

Carr, however, has been a limited participant at Saints practice this week. He’s also taking first-team reps as if it were a normal week of practice. That would point to the Saints believing he’s on track to play. Carr does have to pass concussion protocol to suit up for Sunday’s game. It’s not just about how he feels.

Chris Olave was limited in practice after a concussion earlier this season and played without missing a game. If Carr doesn’t play, this will have been a missed opportunity to properly prepare Jameis Winston to start against the Panthers.
