Derek Carr Gets Good News About Injury Suffered on Scary Hit vs. Packers

Saints quarterback Derek Carr exited Sunday’s game against the Packers early after sustaining a shoulder injury on a big hit from Rashan Gary.

Fortunately, it seems the injury won’t end his season.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Carr is believed to have suffered an AC sprain, While he could still miss some time with the injury, he’s not expected to be out for the year.

As for a potential return, Rapoport indicates that it will come down to how quickly Carr regains mobility of his throwing shoulder and how long it takes the swelling to subside.

The injury occurred during the third quarter after Carr was wrapped up and thrown to the ground by Gary during a sack. The veteran quarterback was in pain on the ground in the aftermath and was replaced by Jameis Winston.

He walked off the field under his own power but did not return.

Carr will undergo further tests on his shoulder to better determine the severity of his shoulder ailment, but it’s good news for New Orleans that he’s seemingly avoided a season-ending injury.

After blowing a 17-point lead in the Week 3 loss vs. the Packers, the Saints will host the Buccaneers in Week 4, a game for which Carr’s status remains unclear.
