Derek Carr could trigger NFL free agency moves including Aaron Rodgers after snub

Derek Carr looks set to leave the Las Vegas Raiders in a matter of days which could make him the first quarterback domino to fall, therefore influencing Aaron Rodgers' decision.

After being the starting quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders, previously the Oakland Raiders, Derek Carr is set to leave the team in interesting circumstances.

The Raiders did Carr a favour this past off-season, trading for his close friend and former college teammate Davante Adams away from Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. Adams went on to have an incredible season, leading the NFL in receiving touchdowns, but Carr struggled.

His struggles were so bad that he ended up being benched for the final three games of the season with the team indicating that they wanted to move on from him - not playing him in risk of injury to prevent a move and making his salary guaranteed.

With Carr able to seek a move of his own, trade talks had reportedly emerged with the New Orleans Saints, who the quarterback even visited with as both teams hoped to make a move possible. But out of nowhere, Carr has now rejected a move with his no-trade clause - meaning the team will need to release him in order for him to leave.

Carr could become a free agent within the coming days, and will get his choice of where he'll play next season - with a number of teams in the market for a quarterback.

Carr's move will have implications on Rodgers, who has been linked to replace him in Las Vegas. But another destination for both men is the New York Jets, who are in need of a new quarterback after a disappointing year from Zach Wilson.

The Jets are expected to pursue Rodgers via a trade, and have learned that they will need to trade two first round picks for that to take place. If they are unable to acquire Rodgers, they could move for Carr, who will be available in free agency.

Jimmy Garoppolo, Geno Smith and Daniel Jones are three other options for teams to consider, who are also set to hit the open market in three weeks time.
