Derek Carr’s move to the Saints brings new scenery and new opportunities to succeed. Strangely enough, it will also give him an opportunity to make NFL history in a very unfortunate way.
So far throughout Carr’s career, he has lost to 30 of the 32 NFL teams, according to CBS. He is one of nine quarterbacks to do so, but the other signal-callers in his company have all since retired. So this year, Carr could become the first quarterback in NFL history to lose to 31 different franchises.
The only two teams Carr has yet to lose to are the Panthers and, of course, the Raiders. Since he’s now playing in the NFC South, Carr will have two chances at making history when New Orleans plays Carolina on Sept. 18 and again on Dec. 10.
However, the Saints do not play the Raiders in 2023, so both teams would need to make the Super Bowl for Carr to be in position to lose to his former franchise.
It’s strange, however, that Carr is already close to reaching this mark at just 32 years old. He’s only played nine seasons in the NFL—all with the Raiders—and has a 63–79 quarterback record.
