Derek Adams' claims on Morecambe 'stonewall penalty' and referee decisions 'going Bolton's way'

Morecambe boss Derek Adams felt his side was denied a 'stonewall penalty' against Bolton Wanderers as he felt the hosts has a lot of officiating decisions going their way.

Wanderers began the clash at the University of Bolton Stadium exceptionally well and could have been a few goals to the good by half-time.

Dion Charles missed a glorious chance and struck the crossbar with another effort, while Amadou Bakayoko saw an effort land wide.

But Cole Stockton gave the visitors the advantage after making the most of George Johnston's short pass to give the Shrimps the lead at the break.

Wanderers huffed and puffed after the break but got a stoppage time equaliser when Xavier Amaechi teed up fellow substitute Jon Dadi Bodvarsson to net late on and salvage a point in a 1-1 draw.

Shrimps boss Adams believes his side were denied a 'stonewall penalty' early in the second half when Bolton skipper Ricardo Almeida Santos upended Dylan Connolly in the box.

Adams claimed that Bolton got 'a lot of decisions going their way for whatever reason' and could not understand why his team were not awarded a spot kick in the encounter at the University of Bolton Stadium as he had plenty of positives to say on his side's performance on the night.

He said: "The performance was excellent tonight. I thought we played really well tonight. We created some really good openings. I thought it was a strong performance from the whole team tonight.

"Defensively we limited Bolton Wanderers to very few opportunities and we created some really big moments in the game.

"The goal that Cole Stockton got was from our press from Aaron Phillips who was magnificent on the night, Dylan Connolly ran his socks off and so did the three midfielders, Stockton upfront and the defenders as well showed really good shape and we should have gone 2-0 ahead.

"We had a number of chances but we've had a stonewall penalty kick not given at 1-0 and I think that over the night, I think that the referee has to see that it's a penalty kick.

"He dosen't give it, the linesman on the side doesn't give it and I don't know if they felt they had to send a player off because he was sliding in.

"It's a really bad challenge from their player and Connolly is in full momentum, takes the ball past him and gets wiped out. I don't understand why the penalty hasn't been given but in the end we've taken a point.

"I think a lot of decisions didn't got for us tonight. I think that Bolton Wanderers got a lot of decisions going their way for whatever reason.

"The fourth official started to rotate the ball and he threw the ball back into play which I didn't think was allowed to happen in the game and in the end, I thought my players were magnificent.

"I do think we had a lot of players booked tonight, one of their players on the far side of the pitch actually threw, even though he had the ball in his hands, threw the ball towards one of our players' faces and pulls it back.

"Nothing happens, that is a booking, and I think that tonight was really disappointing. Chris Sarginson I've known for many years and I go back to my time when I was at Plymouth Argyle, he missed a ballboy getting pushed off the pitch by one of the Leyton Orient players. He missed a big penalty claim tonight."
