Derby County receive Nottingham Forest support as classy message sent

The Nottingham Forest Supporters' Trust have wished rivals Derby County luck in their pursuit of a new owner.

It was announced earlier this week that Chris Kirchner, an American businessman, had withdrawn his offer to take over the club. A statement from Quantuma, who are Derby's administrators, read: "The joint administrators can confirm that today, Mr Kirchner has withdrawn his offer to acquire the business and assets of The Club."

This has put the Rams' future as a football club in incredible danger and reports now suggest Mike Ashley, former Newcastle United owner, may be in the running to save Forest's East Midlands rivals from liquidation. "Football is enhanced by rivalry and banter," the NFFC Trust said. "All fans understand and share the humour to be had from their greatest rivals suffering on the pitch. An existential threat however transcends rivalry for most of us. We wish #dcfc good luck in finding a decent owner. #nffc"

The message from the Supporters' Trust has most certainly gone down well with Derby fans, however, the same cannot be said for their own fans with many replying to the tweet out of frustration. Some comments said that the trust 'does not speak on behalf of all fans' and that it is out of touch with its own fan base.

Forest will play in the Premier League next season after their 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off final secured promotion to England's top flight.

Derby's future may look bright on the pitch in terms of the youth talent, but unfortunately the same cannot be said off the pitch as it is still unknown who will take over the club.

The Rams suffered relegation from the Championship to League One after they were deducted 21 points for entering administration and breaching EFL accounting rules.
