Derby County old boy questions Keylor Navas move to Nottingham Forest amid Tottenham question

Former Derby County midfielder Craig Burley believes Keylor Navas' switch to Nottingham Forest may never have happened if circumstances elsewhere had been different

Navas made the switch to the City Ground from Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day, on loan until the end of the season. And the Costa Rican made his debut against Leeds United one to remember, making several great saves in a 1-0 win for the Reds.

Forest fought hard to land Navas who was in search of regular game time after falling down the pecking order at the Parc des Princes. With the injured Dean Henderson facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the Reds were keen to sign a proved stopper as they bid to stay in the Premier League after a 23-year exile.

However, Burley claimed the move was all about timing as he discussed the goalkeeping situation at Tottenham, where number one Hugo Loris has been ruled out for six weeks with a knee injury and replaced by former England stopper Fraser Forster.

And the former Scotland star believes if Lloris had suffered his injury earlier, when Navas was still available, it could have been a different outcome for Forest, with the PSG man ending up with the Londoners instead.

"Keylor Navas going to Nottingham Forest. It’s all about timing," Burley told ESPN.. "If (Spurs) could have got somebody like that in on loan until the end of the season if Lloris had got injured a little bit earlier, then that’s a different kettle of fish, getting that quality of keeper in."
