Deputy Prime Minister Thérèse Coffey has interview interrupted by Dr Dre

Newly appointed Deputy Prime Minister Thérèse Coffey has had an interview interrupted by US rapper Dr Dre.

The close ally of new Prime Minister Liz Truss was being interviewed by LBC’s Nick Ferrari on Wednesday when she suddenly reached to her side to silence the rapper, whose track was playing from her phone. When asked by the host if she had a phone call, she said: “I’ve just realised my alarm is going off.”

The 50-year-old – who was also appointed Health Secretary in Truss' cabinet reshuffle – had been answering questions on her new and previous roles when Still D.R.E, the rapper’s 1999 hit with Snoop Dogg, cut them off. Thérèse was then forced to awkwardly fiddle with her phone mid-question in order to cancel the alarm.

Asked by host Nick what the alarm was for, the Conservative MP replied: “You're getting a bit of Dr Dre. It's just an 8 o'clock alarm, sorry, let me just turn that off.”

The on-air gaff prompted laughter from the pair, as Nick added: “That's fantastic - Dr Coffey with Dr Dre as the Health Secretary. It just gets better and better.”

Despite the comical moment, many people on Twitter failed to see the funny side, claiming the whole thing was “staged” to make her seem "down with the kids."

One said: “Yeah...that wasn't co-ordinated at all...”

Another added: “100% a tactic to get views.”

“Thérèse we need to look like we are more down to earth, can you set an alarm to go off during your interview, I'm thinking Harry Styles...No wait even better, Dr Dre,” a third said.

Others questioned the time of the alarm and felt 8am was too late for a government minister to be starting the day. One said: "8am? Likes a lie in then."

While another added: "A government minister times her alarm to wake up at 08.00??! Half the morning's gone before she even starts work!!"

It appears Thérèse has a broad music taste, as her official government profile states she “especially” enjoys British rock band Muse, though there is no mention of Dr Dre or any other popular rappers.
