Deputies shoot woman during burglary investigation, investigation underway

Seattle Police Department

Intruder Shot in Incident at Texas Apartment Complex

A woman who was shot during an incident at an apartment complex in Texas has been reported as surviving and remains in stable condition. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of February 3rd, has sparked an ongoing investigation, with both deputies involved in the shooting being placed on leave.

The chain of events leading to the shooting apparently began with a call to the Harris County Sheriff's Office reporting an intruder at another apartment within the same complex. Responding promptly to the call, the first sheriff's deputy conducted a search of the apartment but found no signs of an intruder. A second deputy arrived to provide assistance but as the deputies were leaving, they were flagged down by a concerned neighbor, who alleged another burglary was taking place in a neighboring apartment.

Upon receiving this information, the deputies proceeded towards the apartment in question, where the woman, identified as Ebony Pouncey, was located. They knocked on the door and announced themselves as representatives of the sheriff's office. Stepping back from the door, the deputies claim to have observed a woman with a firearm inside the apartment. Almost simultaneously, the deputies began firing their weapons after instructing the woman to drop the weapon.

It should be noted that prior to the deputies' arrival at the apartment, they had observed broken glass, a missing screen, and raised windows. According to one of the women who was present inside the apartment, they had broken the window as they did not have their keys and needed to gain entry.

The incident as described by one of the witnesses states that after breaking the window and entering the apartment, they had been inside for approximately 20 minutes when they heard loud banging on the door. The witness stated that Ebony Pouncey grabbed her firearm and approached the door. The witness could not provide further details as they did not hear anything afterward until Ebony returned, revealing she had been shot.

The Harris County District Attorney's Office is now conducting an investigation into the incident and is urging anyone with relevant information to come forward. Meanwhile, the Harris County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that the deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

As more facts emerge and the investigation unfolds, the community awaits answers regarding the events leading to the shooting, seeking transparency and justice in this concerning incident.
