VISAKHAPATNAM: As the depression moves towards Odisha and Chhattisgarh far away from Andhra Pradesh coast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday forecast that the impact (rainfall activity) is more in Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
Parts of north Andhra Pradesh are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied with lightning on Monday.
The depression over south Odisha moved west-northwestwards and lay centered over the same region about 10 km southeast of Bhawanipatna (Odisha), 150 km northeast of Jagdalpur (Chhattisgarh) and 190 km east-southeast of Kanker (Chhattisgarh). It is likely to move west-northwestwards across south Odisha and south Chhattisgarh by Monday and weaken gradually.
Several parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh have experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday under the influence of the depression. Light to moderate rains lashed at isolated places in the state on Sunday.
The IMD forecast rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely over Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal and East Madhya Pradesh and heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely over Odisha, Vidarbha and Telangana on Monday. The IMD mentioned that fishermen are advised not to venture into northwest and westcentral Bay of Bengal and along and off Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on Monday.
The heavy rains in parts of the state on Friday and Saturday may have caused problems to people but the farming community in north Andhra Pradesh is not exactly unhappy. The farmers in Vizianagaram district are relieved after rains lashed the district for the last two days. The farmers expressed that the rains have proven to be highly advantageous for many crops.
Normal life was affected in many parts of the tribal pockets in ASR, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam and Srikakulam districts during the last two days due to the heavy rains. However, there was relief on Sunday and the situation is normal now.
