If anything is worth waking up with a sore head it's Bastille at Cardiff Castle. The British pop rock band put on a great show to end a string of artists performing summer gigs at Cardiff Castle.
Coming on strong proudly holding a Welsh flag it was clear that band members Dan Smith, Kyle Simmons, Will Farquarson, and Chris Wood were there to please the crowd. And wow did Dan immerse himself in the crowd.
At multiple points he leapt down from the stage, jumped the barrier, and made his way through to the middle of the crowd to dance with everyone as if he was just another person in the audience. For songs like Million Pieces, Good Grief, and Flaws the entire crowd was jumping, dancing, and grooving the night away.

Set in the gorgeous setting of the castle, which they said despite being lucky enough to have played in several castles Cardiff was the best, you can't help thinking that the people who built this iconic landmark would be smiling down about how the historical site is used now – a place to dance, laugh, and even cry. Some members of the crowd were reduced to tears when Bastille played Pompeii, the song that shot them into fame, as many danced with their lifelong friends.
After Pompeii came a series of fireworks that illuminated the sky above the castle as Dan continued to command the stage. He brought a drum for some songs, had the crowd clapping along for others, and continued to show why Bastille remained popular for so many.
He gratefully thanked the crowd, the crew, the organisers, and everyone who had helped make the gig such a success before leaving the stage and Cardiff Castle standing in the deepening dark blue sky. After the epic performance I would thoroughly recommend a Bastille gig.
