Deontay Wilder believes Jake Paul beat Tommy Fury in clash as he slams referee call

Boxing stalwart Deontay Wilder believes Jake Paul was the man who won the grudge fight with arch rival Tommy Fury, slamming the officiating of referee Hector Afu.

Paul and Fury finally ended their long-lasting feud by meeting in the ring in Saudi Arabia last weekend. Their two-year online feud was settled across eight rounds in the ring, and it was the Englishman who prevailed thanks to victory via a split decision.

The event at the Diriyah Arena welcomed a star-studded guest list, with former Manchester United and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, and heavyweight legend Mike Tyson two of many big names in attendance.

One man who was also ring-side to catch the fight was former WBC heavyweight champion Wilder. The American is no stranger to the Fury, having fought Tommy's older brother and current WBC champion Tyson on three separate occasions.

Once again it was the Fury name that prevailed, however the Bronze Bomber believes this was the wrong decision. Referee Afu played a big role in the fight, deducting points from both fighters in two separate incidents throughout the clash.

Hitting out at this, Wilder said: "I think Jake got that one. I think the referee, that was an immature point deduction. I think they only gave it to Fury because of the point taken. The referee’s supposed to give three warnings, he gave no warnings. Get out of here.”

Paul himself also felt hard-done by when speaking after the fight, feeling he had done enough to be declared the winner on the night. As a result, the American has called on Fury to meet him once more in the ring, after proposing a rematch.

Speaking post-fight he said: "Paul said in the ring after the fight. "I think we deserve that rematch." He then added: "All respect to Tommy, he won. Don't judge me by my wins, judge me by my losses.

"This is definitely a humbling experience. I've made it further than I ever thought that I would, and beyond."

And it seems Fury vs Paul II could well be on the cards, with the Englishman also keen to meet again. Fury said: "This is my first main event. If he wants a rematch, bring it on."
