Last year’s Cleveland Browns defense was one of the best in the league, and the team even had some historic numbers to start the year. Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz found a way to capitalize on the talent in his first season with the team.
Training camp is underway for the Browns, with two practices in the books. Star cornerback Denzel Ward spoke to the media after practice on Thursday and said that he believes the secondary can be even better than it was in 2023, which is quite the statement.
Ward talked about the comfort of the second year in a system and how it allows you to do more things coverage-wise, something Schwartz has talked about himself this offseason. At times, the defense got too predictable, and finding ways to confuse the elite quarterbacks is a must in 2024.
He also discussed how they cannot rest on their accomplishments from last year but should strive to be even better, which he believes they will do.
