A new viral TikTok trend has taken the app by storm, which involves toothpaste, mouthwash and a clear container.
The ‘hack’, when first shared, involved a woman creating a mixture from toothpaste and mouthwash before transferring it to a clear soap dispenser – making the distribution that little bit easier by applying just one pump to the toothbrush.
While this ‘hack’ may look innocent and aesthetically pleasing for organisation fanatics, one dentist has now taken to the app to advise against it.
In a response that has since racked a staggering 1.1 million views, Dr Suhail Mohiuddin’s (@dr.m_) titled the video ‘Clever! But should you try this?’
His video shows snippets of the hack before adding his own input, with the caption ‘Dentist’s advice on this viral trend’.
Dr Mohiuddin then takes to the camera and asks: “Ok, here’s a question, have you ever seen toothpaste in a clear tube before? Nope.”
“The ingredients in toothpaste aren’t UV-stable, so exposing them to light makes them ineffective”, he adds before advising his 581.4K followers: “Please don’t do this.”
Hundreds of curious TikTokers flocked to the dentist’s video to comment. Many failed to understand the aim of the ‘hack’. “Why do people want to go through all this work to fix something that isn’t broken”, one said.
Another highlighted, “Why are there people out there making 32 steps for a 2 step problem?”
“Every time I saw this, I thought ‘if this worked, they would've pushed this already for profit’... Something isn’t right”, a third pointed out.
This isn’t the first time dentists have taken to TikTok to debunk tips and tricks.
Anna Peterson (@annapetersondental) took to the app with an astonishing – and educating – claim that using mouthwash after brushing your teeth can result in tooth decay. In a video that has since racked up a whopping 1.9M views, the dentist urged people to stop doing it.
