Look: The Pittsburgh Pirates are slowly rebuilding, with some young names like Mitch Keller, David Bednar, Ke’Bryan Hayes, Oneil Cruz and Bryan Reynolds representing a bright future if they all continue to develop.
But we’ve said this seemingly thousands of times in this century, even with a few pretty good Pirates teams in the mid-2010s.
And Boston Red Sox commentator Dennis Eckersley decided to say something about it in the middle of Boston’s 5-3 win over Pittsburgh on Tuesday night, talking about a “hodgepodge of nothingness” and how “pathetic” the franchise is with its “no-name lineup.”
Guess what? Pirates fans agreed!
Here's the video
Dennis Eckersley on the Pirates (roster construction, payroll, etc):
"You talk about a no-name lineup. There's no team like this."
"This is a hodgepodge of nothingness."
"It's ridiculous. It really is. Pathetic." pic.twitter.com/qwPBnmkDTD

Dennis Eckersley is 100% correct. If this doesn’t wake up @MLB commissioner office and @MLBPA nothing will. Also isn’t Cherrington embarrassed? Obviously Nutting isn’t and Shelton is just loss, what a mess. https://t.co/0xUoJrQIb6

Honestly more Pirates beat writers and announcers should be saying this until something is done — it is disgraceful and it should be talked about https://t.co/hifFbr8w5U

"A hodgepodge of nothingness" may be the meanest thing I've ever heard. And he's right! https://t.co/39LEtUQYky
