Dennis Daley, Jon Robinson talk O-lineman joining Titans, his versatility

The Tennessee Titans made a last-minute addition to their offensive line room ahead of final cuts by acquiring Dennis Daley in a trade with the Carolina Panthers.

The Titans saw less than ideal performances from their backup options in camp and the preseason, hence the need to bring another option in.

Daley is a good fit for what the Titans need. He has experience, and he can come off the bench and play multiple positions upfront after seeing time at both guard and tackle during his career.

After his first practice on Wednesday, Daley said the trade to Nashville was a surprise, while also noting how he can play pretty much anywhere upfront.

“It was quite a surprise but its been a good change and a transition, and I’m getting to know the guys and the plays and the coaches” Daley said. “I bring a lot of versatility; I can play anywhere, I can backup anywhere… just a hard-working guy.”

General manager Jon Robinson admitted the team needed to beef up its depth behind the starting group, and he went into detail about what stood out about his newest offensive lineman.

“He played mostly left tackle for [the Panthers], but he’s also played right tackle, he’s played some guard,” Robinson said. “I think he’s got good foot quickness, he’s got some snap with his punch. I think he started nine games last year and blocked a lot of good players. You don’t win every rep, but he battles and fights and finishes and tries to stay in front of his guy… We felt that adding depth to that position group was important for us, and glad he was available.”

Daley is going to have a lot of competition for backup snaps at both guard and tackle. Dillon Radunz and Jamarco Jones are vying for the role of first man off the bench at guard and/or tackle, and Corey Levin hopes to be the primary backup at guard and/or center.
