Dennis Bergkamp intervenes with Man Utd's transfer plans for Donny van de Beek

Crystal Palace are hoping to use Donny van de Beek's relationship with Dennis Bergkamp to seal a move for the Manchester United midfielder

Van de Beek is one of several unhappy players at Old Trafford and is looking to find a new club before Deadline Day.

The former Ajax man has made just one start under Ralf Rangnick, a Champions League dead rubber with Young Boys in December, with four further appearances coming from the bench.

The midfielder could go out on loan until the end of the season with a number of teams interested in securing his services including Palace.

And the Eagles are hoping to use Patrick Viera's former Arsenal teammate Bergkamp to help secure a move for the Dutchman.

Bergkamp, whose daughter is dating Van de Beek, has contacted Vieira to accelerate his exit from United and Palace hopes this will smooth the player's path to Selhurst Park, according to talk SPORT.

Van de Beek's first-team opportunities have been few and far between at United and it remains to be seen where his best position is.

But the 24-year-old doesn't see himself as an out-and-out no.10 who plays in behind the striker as he believes he played his best football for Ajax in a deeper role.

"I don't know what the manager thinks and what he expects from me but I played [a deeper] role before with Ajax," Van de Beek said in 2021, when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was still at the helm.

"Of course at the end I was a 10 but I also played a few games as a number six, so I think I can play this.

"The way we play, for me, I think number six or number eight [is my best position]... I don't care where, I just want to play so it doesn't matter where."

Asked what Van de Beek could do to get into the United starting XI, Rangnick said: “Just work hard. So far, as I have got to know him, he has got a top mentality. "He works hard in every training session. He is a team player through and through. There will be games where he will get his chance to play, I am sure.

"I also had a long conversation with him last week about that and again, of course it is difficult for him right now because he also wants to play for the Dutch national team, he wants to qualify for himself and play in the World Cup in Qatar.

"In order to do that he needs to get game time here. But I still believe we should keep him, and he should stay here, definitely until the end of this season and try to get as much game time as he possibly can.”
