Michael Thomas might not be on the New Orleans Saints in 2024, and it feels even more unlikely if Dennis Allen and Derek Carr are back with the team. The wide receiver was as frustrated as many Saints fans during the beginning of New Orleans’ game with the Detroit Lions in Week 13.
How do we know? Thomas sent out a series of tweets that seemed to be shots directed at Carr, starting with the quarterback’s interception on a deflected pass that could have been thrown to a wide-open receiver on the other side of the field. It’s not the first time Thomas has gone at Carr on social media.
Asked about these tweets during his Monday presser, Allen said he was only made aware of them after the game and that it would be handled privately. Thomas’ account was deleted later Sunday afternoon.
“We’ll keep that in-house,” Allen said.
This is a matter that is better handled behind closed doors. Thomas is clearly upset with the direction of the team, and he’s never been shy about showing his emotions.
It would be one thing for a fan or even a media member to tweet criticism during the game, but it’s uncommon to see a player do this. When it does happen, it doesn’t seem to end well for both parties involved. It’s a shame that it’s come to this when Thomas helped recruit Carr to New Orleans in the first place.
