Denmark's Queen Margrethe II, who abdicated earlier this year, has been admitted to a hospital after falling in her home. The 84-year-old queen was taken to the hospital for observation after falling at Fredensborg Castle, north of Copenhagen.
The royal house confirmed the incident, stating that the queen is doing well under the circumstances but has been admitted for observation. Her participation in an upcoming event has been canceled due to the fall.
Queen Margrethe, who studied prehistoric archaeology, was scheduled to attend an event marking the 75th anniversary of the Department of Archeology at Aarhus University. However, her fall has led to the cancellation of her participation.
In January, Queen Margrethe made history by becoming Denmark's first monarch to abdicate in nearly 900 years, passing the throne to her son, Crown Prince Frederik. Despite her initial reluctance to step down, health issues, including back surgery and other ailments, led to her decision to abdicate.
Queen Margrethe's reign spanned 52 years, during which she expressed her dedication to her role as monarch. However, the toll of time and health challenges ultimately influenced her decision to abdicate, as she acknowledged in a New Year's address to the kingdom.
