Denise Welch surprises Loose Women co-stars after revealing her real first name

Denise Welch took her Loose Women colleagues by surprise during Thursday’s episode of the show after revealing that Denise isn’t actually her first name.

The Tynemouth-born star was discussing baby names on the ITV show with fellow panellists Charlene White, Frankie Bridge and Jane Moore in a conversation about which parent should have the final say when it comes to choosing names for children. Denise revealed the surprising fact about her name as she talked about her own parents, OK! Magazine reports .

The 64-year-old told the panel that her full name is in fact Jaqueline Denise, although she was brought up being called Denise. “I was never brought up as Jacqueline. So my mother - according to Dad - was going through a French phase and loved the idea of Jacqueline Denise,” she explained.

“She’d been to Dieppe once on a ferry, right, and basically she thought Jacqueline Denise flowed better than Denise Jacqueline, which is so annoying because I've been brought up with that,” Denise added. And news of the star’s full name seemed to come as a shock to her fellow Loose Women.

“Is Denise not your name?” Charlene White quickly interjected, while Frankie Bridge also responded with a surprised “Oh!”. Denise admitted that using a different name had led to some complications in certain situations.

“I’ll be at the doctors or wherever, and I’ll say: ‘It’s Denise Welch. Hang on a minute, it might be Denise Townley. Oh, actually it might be Jaqueline Denise.’ And it drives me mad,” she admitted.

The actress added that she had even had Jaqueline taken off her passport to avoid future headaches over her name. “Don’t do that to your children,” she warned the Loose Women audience.
