Denise Welch's son is joining the cast of Emmerdale

Denise Welch's son Louis Healy is joining the cast of Emmerdale.

Salford actor Louis, the younger brother of The 1975 singer Matty Healy, will play Danny who will become involved with teen Sarah Sugden in the rural soap.

His mum Denise played Marsha Stubbs in the ITV drama Soldier Soldier, Coronation Street's Natalie Barnes and French teacher Steph Haydock in the BBC One school drama Waterloo Road, set in Rochdale.

His dad Tim shot to fame in eighties in the comedy drama Auf Wiedersehen, Pet about British builders working in Germany and he played Lesley in the ITV comedy Benidorm.

Eighteen-year-old Louis has previously appeared in the BBC soap Doctors, crime dramas Vera and Scott And Bailey and he made his movie debut this summer in the film Sometimes, Always, Never starring Bill Nighy.

Fans tipped him for the top after seeing him in Vera earlier this year as Tyler, the brother of a murdered teenager.

One said: "Going to be one heck of a talent in the future I think."

And another commented: "I thought Louis Healey was amazing. His parents, Denise Welch and Tim Healy should be really proud."

In 2017 he starred alongside his mum in Black Eyed Susan, a harrowing short film that told the story of a woman trapped in her home by a teenage boy intent on driving her to suicide.

Details of the storyline for his Emmerdale character are being kept under wraps by ITV.

He will appear in the soap for the first time on Monday, September 16.
