Denise Welch Reveals She Received Special Hospital Treatment After Being Recognized

Denise Welch, 66, has revealed that she was given preferential treatment during a recent hospital visit after being recognized, admitting she was rushed to a bed following a 24-hour wait in A&E. The Loose Women star shared her experience during today’s episode of the ITV program, where the panel was discussing the NHS’s issue with overcrowding and the recruitment of ‘corridor doctors.’

Denise recounted how, despite waiting for over a day in A&E due to the lack of available beds, she was eventually offered a bed shortly after someone realized who she was. “This may be a bit controversial…but I am going to say this. I was rushed into hospital a few weeks ago and I was alright, but I was in A&E for 24 hours.”

“They were looking after me but there were no beds, and they wanted me on the surgical ward but kept on saying, ‘there’s no bed, there’s no bed, there’s no bed’,” Denise explained, reported Metor.co.uk.

She continued, “Somebody spotted me and phoned the press, and I was in a bed in 15 minutes.” Her admission shocked fellow panelists Charlene White, Judi Love, and Nadia Sawalha, with the audience also reacting in surprise.

Charlene responded, “That’s not going to go down very well,” before reading a statement from the Department of Health and Social Care, which acknowledged the issue and assured the public that reforms were underway to address the problem of corridor care.

Denise also reflected on her experiences in the NHS during the lead-up to her mother’s death in 2012, recalling how she witnessed many patients being treated in hospital corridors due to a lack of beds.

Earlier this month, Denise shared the reason for her emergency hospital visit, revealing that she had been rushed to the hospital with acute peritonitis shortly after returning from a holiday in the Caribbean. “I came back from a lovely holiday in the Caribbean looking all bronzed and looking forward to coming back here and showing off my suntan… and I got rushed to hospital with acute peritonitis,” she said. Fortunately, she was treated with antibiotics and avoided surgery, adding, “I am now back and eating!”

Denise also discussed her three-month absence from Loose Women, explaining that she had suffered a breakdown, leading to panic attacks and anxiety. She shared how her husband, Lincoln, helped her clear her schedule, and after collapsing in a hotel lobby, she took time off to recover. “I’ve been making a recovery from this episode,” she said, fighting back tears.
