In what surely must be one of the most unexpected roles of her career to date, Denise Welch is set to play The Queen in Diana the Musical, as the Broadway show panned by critics, but loved by fans, comes to London later this year.
Diana the musical opened in New York a few years ago, with it being filmed to go on Netflix. Its cast included Emily in Paris star Roe Hartrampf, Judy Kaye as The Queen and Jeanna de Waal in the lead role of the late Princess of Wales. It ran from November 2 to December 19 2021, after a total of 33 performances and 16 previews, before the lights went out on its Broadway run.
But noe, Diana the Musical is coming to London, for a one-off performance at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith on December 4. The concert version of the show will see the story of Diana's life and times as member of the Royal Family, split into two parts, with an older Diana both narrating and reflecting back on her life and that of her 19-year old self.
