Denise Welch in tears on Loose Women on day of tragic anniversary as she remembers her dad

Denise Welch choked back tears on Loose Women on Wednesday as she remembered her late dad VIn, a year to the day since he died and reflecting on how he was 'the one person in the world who never judged her.'

Vin was a regular guest on Loose Women, with many of the stars of the ITV show, not just daughter Denise, having fond memories of their time with him both on and off camera. Having been devastated at not being able to spend as much time as she'd have liked to in the final few years of Vin's life, due to Covid restrictions, Denise broke the news on Instagram that he'd passed away at the age of 84.

The former Coronation Street and Waterloo Road star wrote: "He left us surrounded by his family who could not have loved anyone more.

"I can’t quite function as I’m so grief stricken, but I know he meant so much to so many people, even those who’d never met him. I've never seen anyone fight to stay longer at a party than dad and last night was no different."

Hosting Wednesday' s Loose Women, presenter Christine Lampard took the time to pause the show to remember Vin, after Denise had also mentioned her late mum. Denise immediately became emotional as she started talking about her dad, telling Christine and colleagues Katie Piper and Jane Moore that, while it was a year since her dad had passed, she wanted to "flip the narrative," and take it as an opportunity to celebrate him and his legacy.

Denise joked about the fact that on their last holiday together in Turkey, she had to tell someone to make sure her dad "got home from the party OK at 4 o'clock in the morning," adding: "He was a party animal and he also did a drag act. Those of you who are old enough to remember will know why he called himself Raquel, because our surname is Welch.

"Every single day someone reminds me of something he did or said. Jane and I have known each other for 30 years and she had many a night out with dad and Raquel."

Denise then started to cry as she reflected on the constant support she received from Vin, saying: "My dad was the one person in the world who never judged me. There was no judgement no matter what I did. I deserved to be judged but I felt like I lost the person who never judged me. Luckily, my husband is the same"
