Denise Welch fumes over sex education for 5-year-olds and claims 'it's getting out of hand'

Loose Women panelist Denise Welch was not impressed on Wednesday's show as they discussed the idea of sex education for kids as young as five.

Denise joined Jane Moore, Katie Piper and Kéllé Bryan on the ITV lunch time programme to discuss some of the latest headlines.

"Jane began the chat by saying: Sex education lessons compulsory in secondary and primary schools, meaning it will be taught to children as young as five-years-old.

"The parents say their concern is they will no longer have the right to take their children out of these lessons if they want to. Are they right? Is five too young?

Kéllé, 47, replied: "100 per cent, it's far too young. I think what's more concerning to me is taking away the parental rights to decide.

"Education is one thing, but what they're trying to do is take away my parental right to have a look at content and decide whether that's what I want to expose my child to or not.

"I think there are so many deciding factors, there's religion, your race, your culture, where you come from, in terms of those decisions and how you make them, where you make them and how I discuss that with my child," she continued.

Kelle Bryan admitted she is concerned about her 'parental rights' being taken away (ITV)

Denise then added her thoughts and said: "We are making a generalisation here, obviously my kids are up and grown. But also the thing about what we are allowing and how things are changing has become very politicised and I find that if you don't agree with certain things these days, you are considered to be far right.

"I hate the word woke, but the fact is, I think that five is too young to start talking about sex education.

Denise fumed that things are 'getting out of hand' as people are worried about being cancelled (ITV)

"Why does this have to be in the school curriculum? Why can we not have children brought up in an environment, from the age of however old, where you are just taught or encouraged to believe that you can be anything you want to be? You can love whoever you want to love and if you don't feel comfortable, there are people you can talk to," Denise continued.

"These days people are frightened to say, 'you look lovely, you look handsome' which is creating body positivity, because people don't know what they're supposed to say in case they're sacked as a teacher, or cancelled as a show host, it's getting out of hand!" she fumed.

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
