Denise Welch has launched a passionate defence of her son, The 1975 singer Matthew Healy , after he defied Dubai's anti-gay laws with a public kiss.
Video by fans shows the musician venturing into the crowd during his band's gig on Wednesday.
As the song Loving Someone played, he approached a man in the crowd and kissed him, declaring: "I love you bro. We're all human, right?"
Following the show, he tweeted: "Thank you Dubai you were so amazing.
"I don’t think we’ll be allowed back due to my ‘behaviour’ but know that I love you and I wouldn’t have done anything differently given the chance again."
The protest was praised by many fans of the Brit Award-winning band , with one saying he had inspired them to come out to their mum after the gig.
But others questioned whether the protest was safe for the fan Matt kissed.
Denise took to Twitter to reassure her followers her son was ok following the protest.
One Twitter user told her: "Seems the guy he got up on stage is OK too - which is lucky. Well, he is OK for now. Maybe save the rainbows - LGBTQ allies don't put people at risk for the sake of an empty, headline grabbing stunt."
Furious Denise told him to "go f**k yourself", adding: "It isn’t any other pop star its my son who cares passionately about people who are oppressed. It’s his whole life not a f**king stunt...
"It wasn’t a choice. It was an impulse seeing a sea of young gay men with tears in their eyes looking up at him and reducing him to tears."
She later tweeted: "Matt is very lucky to have such amazing fans."
According to the Foreign Office , there have been reports of people being punished for homosexual activity in the UAE, particularly when in public.
The 1975 are known for being socially-conscious: 30-year-old Matt last year opened an LGBTQ community centre in London, and climate activist Greta Thunberg features on their new album.
