Denise Welch calls out 'double standards' on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle abuse

Denise Welch has called out the 'double standards' behind criticism of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after they held each others' hand in support at Westminster Hall on Wednesday,

Harry, Duke of Sussex, joined other members of the Royal Family, to walk behind the Queen's coffin as it made the short journey from Buckingham Palace, where Her Majesty's body arrived to huge crowds a night earlier, to the Hall, where it is now lying in state until her funeral on Monday.

Harry walked alongside brother William, the new Prince of Wales, en route to Westminster, where the siblings were joined by wives Meghan and Kate and other Royals, including new Queen Consort Camilla and Zara and Mike Tindall.

Meghan, who wore earrings the Queen had given her in 2018, was seen with her hand in husband Harry's during a special service in the Hall, with Zara and Mike also seen holding hands. However, only Meghan and Harry were singled out for their show of affection for one another, with one critic taking to Twitter to blast: "The Royal Family leave our beloved Queen in Westminster Hall with grace and dignity except for Harry and Meghan who just have to hold hands like two lovesick teenagers. They really get on my nerves."

Also taking aim at the grieving Duke and Duchess of Sussex, another Twitter user suggested it was 'either young love or insecurity among people they'd alienated,' to which the original poster replied: "They're not exactly 'young' so it must be insecurity."

Picking up on the criticism, Denise fired back "How sad that you clearly don’t have someone who wants to hold your hand," before she then shared a photo of Zara and Mike holding hands on her timeline and wrote: "Clearly too old and obviously insecure’…….oh sorry that’s just Meghan and Harry. My bad."

Backing Denise's stance, one of her followers commented: "Honestly ? Some people need to get out more. I was so glad to hold my husband’s hand when I was at my parents funeral . It has nothing to do with not showing respect," with a second reacting: "I’ve been with my partner for 20 years! I’m 47 now and we still hold hands. If I was going through a emotional time like Harry and Meghan my gosh I wouldn’t let go!"

Denise's support for Harry and Meghan came after a tense row over the couple on Loose Women, when Denise clashed with her co-stars. Taking aim at journalist colleague Jane Moore, she fumed: ""Look at the press every single day, you guys are obsessed with tearing them down! Absolutely obsessed, every single day," before questioning why some people who condemn Megan haven't given the same treatment to Prince Andrew,
