Denise Van Outen recalls 'terrible' date experience with man who didn't make 'any effort'

Denise Van Outen has opened up about a "terrible" date she went on where her potential partner turned up looking "scruffy," despite her having made an effort for it.

The presenter, 48 - who is currently in a relationship with property developer Jimmy Barba, 55 - recently reflected on a dating experience she had in the past with someone else.

She spoke about the date in an interview, saying she made an effort to "get dressed up" for the occasion. She however said that the man she met up with hadn't done the same.

Discussing the experience, Denise said that he had asked her to book a restaurant. She suggested that she had expected him to research the dress code of the venue.

She told The Sun about the blind date experience from her past: "I like to get my heels on and dress up, but he turned up so scruffy. He came like he'd just been sat in front of the telly in a grandad cardigan and just looked so scruffy."

Denise - who is best known for having fronted TV shows such as the Big Breakfast - added that she even confronted her date about him having not made "any effort".

She continued about the dinner date by saying she had hoped a friend would get her out of the situation. However, she said that her pal ended up falling asleep at home.

Denise said that a friend had promised to help get her out of the situation if it wasn't going well. She recalled sending her pal a message on the date but not hearing back.

Discussing her friend having not responded, she told the outlet during the interview: "He said the next day that he fell asleep really early and so he couldn't save me."

The interview also saw Denise discuss her current relationship, having gone public with Jimmy last year. Talking about marriage, she said "it's a bit too early" for that but added that things are heading in the "right direction".
