Denise Van Outen and her chef pal cooked for Diana Ross after concert catering emergency

Denise Van Outen and her chef pal came to the rescue of Diana Ross when she needed some sole at the weekend - preparing a last minute menu for her before a massive concert.

The iconic singer was headlining The Cambridge Club Festival on Sunday night but arrived at the site with her band needing dinner before going on stage at 8.45pm.

When her team realised the backstage food wasn't the type of thing Diana and her crew would like, an SOS was sent out to source and cook her a menu she would appreciate.

TV Chef Tristan Welch from local restaurant Parkers Tavern came to the rescue with some help from Denise.

Already on his way to the festival as a spectator, Tristan wrote a menu in the taxi and diverted to his kitchen to pick up the rest of his ingredients.

Along with his great friend Denise Van Outen they then used the kitchen at onsite members area The Ned and crafted a gourmet selection of Ms Ross’s favourite dishes to ensure she was well fuelled for her performance.

Referencing a Ross hit, TV Chef Tristan Welch said: "When I got the call to come to the rescue and cook for Diana Ross I said to myself stop in the name of food! I couldn’t let her go hungry."

Tristan and Denise, who have appeared on ITV ’s Cooking With The Stars together, whipped up the dishes in a hospitality area run by London members club The Ned, where they later enjoyed watching Ross on stage as she played hit after hit.

Denise said: "When I heard Miss Ross needed feeding I knew there ain't no mountain high enough, I had to get there to feed my idol. How many people can say they have cooked for such an icon?"

At short notice the duo offered up a simple but delicious menu of Heirloom tomato and chervil salad or Caesar salad followed by main courses of Steak with sauté new potatoes and tender stem broccoli and Lemon sole with samphire, nut brown butter.

The Cambridge Club Festival saw three days of glorious sunshine with a whole host of funk and soul icons taking the stage. Around 25,000 festival goers came together at the stunning Childerley Orchard, Cambridgeshire to join the star-studded party.

Headliners from across the weekend included Level 42, Nile Rodgers and Chic, The Jacksons and the aforementioned Diana Ross, ahead of her Glastonbury debut, later this month.
