Prinn Panitchpakdi, a deputy leader of the Democrat Party and head of the party's economic team, has been picked to oversee the party's operations for both the Bangkok governor and the city council elections.
Another of the party's deputy leaders, Ongart Klampaiboon, discussed the choice at a party press briefing on Wednesday when Mr Prinn's selection to lead its centre overseeing the polls on May 22 was announced.
Mr Ongart said the Democrat Party, part of the coalition government, will field candidates in all 50 districts of the capital, in addition to Suchatvee Suwansawat who stands as the party's candidate to run the city.
He said Mr Prinn was an important resource of the party who has helped shape and drive it in many ways.
He was well-suited to the role of election centre director because of his role and expertise in economics, Mr Ongart said.
Campaign policies will incorporate economic affairs, which Mr Prinn will help formulate.
He is also a new-generation politician who shares the party's ideology and vision, skills needed to manage and execute highly-adaptable election strategies which are needed for today's modern electorate, Mr Ongart said.
Such adaptability is seen as crucial given the poll environment is significantly different from what it was 10 years ago.
There have been many changes in the nation's economic, social and political circumstances, with new communication technology influencing the way elections are conducted, he said.
Mr Prinn thanked the party for entrusting him with the director's job.
The party has devised a system of selecting its Bangkok governor candidate and preparing him for the election campaign that requires meeting people both old and young, he said.
Mr Prinn said he has already visited many constituencies in Bangkok.
