A demonstration with encampments has emerged at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Royce Quad, as reported in a campus activity update on Thursday. Access to Royce Hall and Powell Library has been restricted, but campus activities will continue as usual, with classes proceeding as scheduled.
The university update emphasized the commitment to maintaining a safe and peaceful campus environment that upholds the community's right to free expression while minimizing disruptions to the teaching and learning mission.
This encampment development follows the recent arrest of nearly 100 protesters at the nearby University of Southern California following a dispersal order.
Students for Justice in Palestine at UCLA took to Instagram to invite others to join the demonstration, stating, 'WE ARE STAYING UNTIL OUR DEMANDS ARE MET! BE HERE!'
The post further expressed solidarity with Palestine and a refusal to be complicit in what they described as a genocidal campaign.
Aerial images from source affiliate KCAL depict individuals scattered throughout Royce Quad with tents, showcasing a peaceful demonstration by the participants.
