Just three wins away from their first AFLW premiership, Geelong are bent on dismantling Melbourne's dynasty.
Easily beating Essendon in their first-ever elimination-final win by 18 points, the Cats continue their charge towards a maiden flag when they come up against the Demons in the semi-final.
The teams have met only once with the defending premiers handing Geelong a 49-point drubbing earlier this season thanks to four goals by captain Kate Hore.
But a lot has changed since their round-five meeting.
Having lost to Brisbane in the final round of the season, Melbourne's aspirations on back-to-back flags hit another road bump in a 41-point mauling by North Melbourne who kept the Demons goalless for three quarters.
On a high after three consecutive wins, defender Georgie Rankin says the Cats have only improved since their earlier meeting with the Demons.
"We took away massive learnings - there were probably ebbs and flows in the last game that we didn't quite get fully back in on our terms," Rankin told AAP on Wednesday.
"For a while Melbourne probably looked like the untouchables but it's no longer that way.
"We believe that the score didn't quite reflect the fight we did put up against them.
"We're not naive to the fact that they will bounce back but they aren't unbeatable by any means and we do take a lot of confidence knowing that.
"You've got to beat the best to be the best."
Now in their second-consecutive finals appearance, powerhouse midfielder Amy McDonald says the Cats are on the verge of cementing themselves as a real premiership threat.
"We're capable of beating anyone," McDonald said on Wednesday.
"We have huge belief and our best footy is good enough.
"Melbourne are an incredible side and we know they're going to really bring the heat but ... we feel like we're peaking at the right time."
Geelong will be without star forward Chloe Scheer this weekend after the 24-year-old sustained a hairline fracture to her right collarbone against Essendon.
Taking 23 marks and 19 goals across the regular season, Scheer could make a possible return should the Cats defeat Melbourne.
