During Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent address at the House chamber, a variety of reactions were observed among lawmakers in attendance.
As Netanyahu entered the chamber, many Democrats chose to stand but refrained from clapping. Notably, Senator Chuck Schumer did not applaud, while others like Senator Tammy Baldwin stood without clapping. It was observed that Netanyahu and Schumer did not shake hands upon his arrival.
Some members opted to remain seated throughout Netanyahu's entrance. This group included Representative Rashida Tlaib, the only Palestinian-American congresswoman, as well as Representatives Marcy Kaptur of Ohio and Sylvia Garcia of Texas.
Conversely, there were Democrats who showed their support by applauding, such as Senator Mark Kelly, who is considered a potential vice presidential candidate.
Interestingly, due to the significant number of Democrats who chose not to attend the speech, several Republicans were seen sitting on the Democratic side of the aisle.
