A recent poll conducted by CBS News and YouGov reveals that a significant majority of Democratic voters are in favor of Vice President Kamala Harris as their party's next nominee for president. The survey, which included 1,071 registered voters who identify as Democrats, indicates that 79% of Democratic voters support nominating Harris for president, while 21% prefer another candidate.

Furthermore, the poll shows that 83% of Democratic voters approve of President Biden's decision to step aside, with 45% believing that the party's chances of winning against Donald Trump have improved as a result. Only 10% think the party's chances have worsened, while 28% believe it depends on the nominee and 17% feel there is no change in the party's chances.

Regarding voter motivation, approximately 39% of Democratic voters express increased motivation to vote in the 2024 election, while only 6% feel less motivated with Biden stepping aside. The majority, 49%, state that their motivation to vote remains unchanged.

Most Democratic voters prefer party leaders to select the nominee now (59%) rather than waiting for delegates to choose a candidate in August (41%). The survey also indicates that there is strong support for Harris as the next nominee across various subgroups, with liberals showing slightly higher support at 82% compared to moderates at 72%.

Additionally, 65% of Democratic voters believe that party leaders treated Biden fairly during his decision-making process, while 35% feel he was treated unfairly. Looking ahead, a majority of voters anticipate a positive legacy for Biden, with 43% expecting an excellent legacy and 39% predicting a good one.

The survey results have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points, providing valuable insights into the preferences and sentiments of Democratic voters regarding the upcoming presidential nomination.
