New campaign finance filings for Minnesota state legislative races show Democrats leading Republicans in fundraising. Between July 1, 2021, and December 31, 2021, Democratic candidates outraised Republican candidates by 47 percent.
Heading into the primary elections, 13 Democratic candidates raised $92,984 compared to $57,705 raised by two Republicans.
In the Democratic party, the top fundraisers in the most recent reporting period were:
- Aleta Borrud (State Senate, District 26) – $25,900
- Zaynab Mohamed (State Senate, District 63) – $23,900
- Carlie Kotyza-Witthuhn (House of Representatives, District 48B) – $12,480
- Susan Pha (State Senate, District 40) – $11,504
- Ann Rest (State Senate, District 45) – $7,250
In the Republican party, the top fundraisers in the most recent reporting period were:
- Andrew Myers (House of Representatives, District 33B) – $34,155
- Matt Norri (House of Representatives, District 6B) – $23,550
The candidates who raised the most money were Andrew Myers (R) in House District 33B ($34,155), Aleta Borrud (D) in Senate District 26 ($25,900), and Zaynab Mohamed (D) in Senate District 63 ($23,900).
State legislative primary elections are held on August 9, 2022. In some cases, party nominees may have been chosen earlier.
Republicans have a 34-31 majority in the Minnesota State Senate while Democrats have a 69-64 majority in the Minnesota State House.
