House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries introduced a new legislative response to President Donald Trump's second term by unveiling a bill aimed at restricting Elon Musk's access to sensitive Treasury Department payment systems. The proposed bill, known as the Taxpayer Data Collection Act, is set to be introduced in both the House and Senate.
The bill, which is yet to be officially filed, seeks to safeguard personal information such as names, Social Security numbers, addresses, and bank account details within the Treasury system. Despite being in the House minority, Democrats are determined to garner support for the bill, potentially utilizing tactics like a discharge petition to bring it to the floor for a vote.

With House Republicans holding a slim majority, only a few GOP members would need to align with Democrats to pass the bill. House Minority Whip Kathryn Clark emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that just three GOP members could end the debate immediately.
Rep. Sean Casten highlighted the significant public interest in the issue, noting that his office has received an overwhelming number of inquiries regarding the proposed legislation. Jeffries emphasized a comprehensive approach to address what he referred to as a 'Billionaire puppetmaster,' indicating a willingness to explore all available legislative avenues to advance the bill.
