A group closely tied to House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., is launching a multi-million dollar ad campaign targeting 23 Republican lawmakers. The ads, set to air starting Monday, accuse Republicans of endangering healthcare for 37 million children and threatening to force seniors out of nursing homes to benefit billionaires like Elon Musk.
The House Majority PAC (HMP), aligned with Democratic leadership, identified the 23 lawmakers who won closely contested races in key states like California, Pennsylvania, and Arizona, crucial for securing the House GOP's slim majority in the 119th Congress.
Mike Smith, president of HMP's action arm House Majority Forward, tied the ads to House Republicans' recent vote to advance President Trump's agenda through the budget reconciliation process. Smith condemned Republicans for potentially stripping millions of Americans of their health insurance.
The Democratic pushback is in response to the proposed $880 billion in cuts Republicans seek for programs under the House Energy & Commerce Committee's jurisdiction. Republicans aim to cut at least $1.5 trillion in government spending to fund Trump's priorities, including tax eliminations and increased border security funding.

While Republicans claim they are targeting waste, fraud, and abuse in government spending and have assured that Medicaid will not be affected, Democrats and some moderate Republicans doubt that savings can be achieved without significant cuts to vital programs.
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) criticized Democrats for resorting to fearmongering and lies to distract from their recent tax hike vote. The NRCC accused Democrats of jeopardizing America's fiscal future and plans to leverage the budget vote against vulnerable House Democrats in the 2026 elections.
Democrats are also highlighting Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency's efforts to find $1 trillion in federal budget cuts as a potential issue for the upcoming midterms. The political landscape is intensifying as both parties strategize and position themselves for the future.
